Election Night in New York City

Last night, I witnessed American history in the making. I took the opportunity to walk through Manhattan, where both presidential candidates would be having their victory / concession speeches within a mile from each other. I walked 8 miles, took hundreds of photographs, and ate an amazing Halal style hot dog.

Times Square fell silent. Cheers were only heard when Clinton was announced winning a state.

All I had to do was tell him I was from California.

Police presence was very strong. Prepared for the worst.

Best $10 I ever spent.

Overall, they were calm. So were the crowds.

She asked why I photographed her, I told her it was because she was beautiful. She laughed.

Some people were on the street, preparing for the purge.

The bars were dead silent, and my beer was cold, like my emotions.

The birds watched.

The crowds were tireless, collecting at city squares until 4-5 am.

Not every supporter of Trump is bigoted, this guy seemed like a genuine person who was hungry for change.

The overlord's tower. Are we in some sort of dystopian movie set in the future?

As I stood outside of Trump Towers listening in on some of the racist rhetoric, hate speech, and cheering, I listened in on Trump's victory speech with a Jewish couple.

At around this time, Trump supporters grew very loud, picking up scuffles with Clinton supporters. Nothing too serious.. But definitely chanted some things that made me uncomfortable.

These guys were intoxicated, and slurred things at people of color. I gave up after this.

I walked back home and New York fell silent.

These are wild times. At this point, we must take a deep breath, and focus on how to unite our country. Smile at a stranger, open a door for someone. Be accepting and be kind. Negativity will always be looming.

I read an article today from Cracked (bare with me), and the writer gives the perspective from middle America. We must attempt to understand, as much as most might not agree. Give it a shot.
